Ed Psych's Dr. Heather Brown was featured on the U of A website's 'News Articles' with a story about her work with studies in autism and math. From the article, "While it’s true that a higher rate of people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) are gifted in math than people without the disorder, an educational psychology expert (Brown) at the University of Alberta found they are just as likely to face equally serious challenges with math."
Dr. Brown asks, "Children with autism are as likely to have serious challenges with math as they are to be gifted in math. The question is bigger than how we best support students with ASD to succeed in math. The question is, are they doing math in a fundamentally different way?”
